Wine Spectator 87 points - Game and mineral flavors emerge through firm tannins in this austere red. The finish is clean and fresh, and cherry and licorice notes suggest it may bloom with time. Best after 2007. 200 cases imported. –TM (Nov 30 2006)
Robert Parker 86 points - The 2003 Clos de l’Obac is a bit of a mystery. Perhaps it was a victim of the vintage’s heat but it came off as firm and hard on the palate, short and compact on the finish. (Feb 2007)
Power, structure and complexity are the three characteristics of this wine.
These qualities are partly the result of the diversity of altitude and orientation of the eight Clos de l’Obac vineyards, all of which are sited around the town of Gratallops.
The ”coupage” is of five grape varieties of which those from more than fifty year old Garnacha and Cariñena vines are the most important.
They bring to the wine its fine balance and its unique personality.
